We are blessed with many places to camp in our council ranging from the beautiful foothills of the Appalachain Mountians to the Southern river plains. Among these places are our local council camps. In 2009, the Coosa Lodge is getting back to the basics. One of the 3 principles of the OA is Service. The Lodge holds regular service events at Comer Scout Reservation on Lookout Mountin near Desoto State Park and at Camp Sequoyah near the Talladega National Forest and Mount Cheha. In the past several of our other camps have relied on local individuals to provide service. Camp Jackson and Camp Westmoreland both have active council committees that focus on their maintainance and improvements of both of these historic camps. Currently many Arrowmen are involved in the on going projects at both of these camps. Recently the counicl announced that there will be a service day every thrid weekend of the month beginning in January at Camp Jackson. There will be areas open for your troop to be able to camp and city water was recently added out to its beautiful lakefront campsites. More information about the facilities and location of each of camps as well as an on going forum about camping in the South is available on our Where to Go Camping Wiki.
If you would like more information about how to get involved at any of our council camps, contact Vice Chief of Service Kyle McInnis or your local chapter chief.
