5th Annual American Indian Seminar slated for March 19th -21st

by Davis Faulkner on March 3, 2010

Each year since 2006, Coosa Lodge has hosted an American Indian Seminar. This year’s AIS will be held at Camp Comer near Mentone, AL on March 19-21. This event is organized and hosted by the Lodge and any Arrowman interested in American Indian traditions and crafts is invited to attend. Each year, guests from several neighboring states visit for fun, learning, and fellowship.

Class sessions typically include introductory classes to the various Indian dance styles, drumming, “make and take” Indian craft classes, regalia-building classes, training on various beadwork techniques, teepee building, training on judging dance and ceremony competitions, and lots more!  Saturday night culminates in a Pow-Wow on the Parade Field (where everyone is invited to participate), the Founders Award and movies.  Plus, good food, ice cream, Cracker Barrels, patch trading, and the famous Coosa Lodge Trading Post.

Adviser Mr. Julian Simmons notes that we will have several people teaching dance that teach and judge at NOAC and National Jamboree. We plan to have a live bird of prey presentation. We have several new classes and well as some of the old classes. In addition, the National Vice Chief  is scheduled to attend. The AIS patch feature a Straight Dancer on it this year. Finally for those that want to get their Brotherhood, they can plan to do this on Friday evening so plan ahead to seal your bond. We will also have open drumming Friday night. A Schedule of Events is posted below.

If you bought a 2010 Coosa Lodge Event Pass, this event is included. Otherwise, the pre-registration form can be sent in to the Scout Office with your payment. The cost is only $15 if you register before this Friday, March 5th. After March 5th, the on-site registration will cost $20. Hope to see you there!
