T-Minus 3 Days to the Next Ordeal

by Chris Brightwell on September 6, 2011

As we’re all drying out from the soaking rains of Tropical Storm Lee, it’s time to focus our attention on this weekend’s task: an Ordeal and Brotherhood induction weekend!

Ordeal Candidates — With any luck, you should have all of the information you need.  If not, click here to go to our “Instructions for Your Ordeal” page.  When you get home, be sure to take a few minutes to visit our After Your Ordeal page for information on how to get involved and stay connected.

I know that you’re all excellent Scouts and campers, otherwise you wouldn’t be selected as candidates for the Order.  That said, here are a few quick tips to make your Ordeal as successful as possible:

  • Camp is likely to be soggy from this weekend’s soaking rains.  Do not forget to bring a small tarp or waterproof groundcloth.
  • The current forecast calls for low temperatures over the weekend in the upper-50s. If your sleeping bag isn’t rated for this temperature, be sure to bring a lightweight blanket to line the inside of your sleeping bag.

Brotherhood Candidates — If you completed your Ordeal at least ten months ago, this is you.  Do you know everything that you need to know?  If not, take a few minutes to download and review our Brotherhood Study Guide. Then tell the staff at registration that you’d like to seal your membership by obtaining Brotherhood.

Lodge Officer Candidates — Don’t forget that your Lodge Officer Nomination form is due this weekend.  If you miss the deadline, you will not be considered for election.

Everyone Else — What will you be doing to enhance the weekend and help prepare for Fall Fellowship?  If you don’t know how to help, as a member of the Key 3 or talk to the folks at registration.  They’ll help you connect with someone who can match your abilities to our needs.

This is going to be a great weekend for camping, with highs during the afternoon in the lower 80s and lows at night near 60.  If the skies are clear, maybe we can catch a glimpse of that once-in-a-lifetime supernova currently lighting up the skies in galaxy M101. Bring your binoculars!
