We just got word that Dr. James Flatt, our first Lodge Adviser and current Section Adviser, has been announced as a 2009 recipient of the Order of the Arrow Distinguished Service Award.  This award crowns a lifetime of distinguished servant leadership in Scouting and the Order over a span of more than 30 years.

The Distinguished Service Award was created in 1940 to honor those who rendered service to the Order beyond the lodge level. The award is presented to those Arrowmen who have rendered distinguished and outstanding service to the Order on a sectional, regional, or national basis.  Since the time of the first awards were presented, less than 750 Distinguished Service Awards have been presented.

Dr. Flatt will be presented with his award during one of the evening arena shows at the upcoming 2009 NOAC.  Congratulations, Dr. Flatt!

Over the weekend, we inducted a total of 109 new Ordeal members at Camp Sequoyah while another 10 sealed their membership in the Order by attaining Brotherhood.  Congratulations to everyone, and thanks to everyone who worked on staff to make this weekend a success!

Are you one of those 109 new Ordeal members?  If so, grab your OA Handbook and head over to our “After Your Ordeal” page for information on the Order and details regarding your Ordeal experience.  Congratulations, and welcome to Scouting’s National Honor Society!

(or, How to Make Coosa50.org Work for You)

Since launching this website more than a year ago, we’ve been focused squarely on finding ways to make this the best information resource possible for members, candidates, visitors, and friends.  For the most part, I feel like we’ve accomplished that.  We still have a few gaps to fill in (ex: Forms and Publications), but I feel that we’ve come a long way in the last year and that this is one of the best lodge websites on the ‘net.

However, among all of the sophisticated technology under the hood of this website, there are two features here that are vastly under-utilized: Our extensive use of RSS feeds and our integration with Twitter.  These are technologies that I use everyday, and thoroughly understand, but they’re also technologies that I take for granted.  With that, I want to take some time to help you understand these features and find ways to put them to work for you.
